Hey, Courtney, from the sunny beach. I found this site from the Facebook article you posted. Love it. How could I get on this site with my published book “Gabby…All About Me”?
Let me know…I’d like to. Keep smilin’…Lee
Hi. This blog looks like a great resource for writers! I was wondering if you would consider adding my website to your handy list of resources.
At The Review Review (http://www.TheReviewReview.net) we review literary magazines, interview journal editors, and offer publishing tips to writers.
Thanks so much.
Best of luck with your blog (and your writing!)
Becky,
Editor, The Review Review

A Poem Called HABIOS
What is outer space?
Is it an imagination let loose to roam free without abandon?
Is it the continuum of a darkness whose origins lie within our own hearts?
It is the black blanket for a cold, desolate world?
No.
It’s a place where balls of gas explode and wither away.
It is where I send the hot air balloon full of my hopes and dreams so that it may find the freedom it needs to grow in a vast, limitless expanse.
That is outer space.

Fall is Here
The days of heat are long, now gone
In their place a frigid alien
of whistling wind
and bending willows groaning displeasure’;
Leaves scatter the street
and signs of the crisp of autumn can be found
in the sweeping green oxygen machines
that skirt the perimeter
of the school
The cold stings the skin
and the iridescent clouds leave
a suburban fireworks display
of purples
and reds
and blues, greens
reborn in eyesight
when I look away
It came so quickly
and will leave so soon
yet for now in a world of undecided tints
and an uncertain student
and a wind without destination
only to blow the broken spines of leaves and feathers
And a ray of silken water wicks
off a mirror
and away
beneath a layer of ice

Cash Prizes for the First Line of Your NaNoWriMo Novel!
Entrants for the 2011 National Novel Writing Month can win a prize for the first line of their novel! Entry into the competition is free and the cash prizes are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd, $25 for 3rd, and a copy of the book “Your Writing Coach” for seven honorable mentions.
So if you are one of the estimated 200,000 people taking part in the worldwide National Novel Writing Month send us your opening line and get the chance to win a cash prize or a copy of the latest book from renowned writing coach, Jurgen Wolff, “Your Writing Coach.”
And remember, there’s no entry fee, you just need a send your first line to Jurgen from the website, http://www.NaNoWriMoContest.com
Some of you may be wondering why we are running a first line contest? “Just to encourage writers to get started,” says Jurgen. “We don’t have any official link with NaNoWriMo but I like to think we have the same spirit of playfulness. And it’s going to be fun to read them all.”
What makes a first line great?
“The most basic thing is that it should make you want to read the second line,” Jurgen says. “If every sentence makes you want to read the next one, you’ll suddenly realize it’s four in the morning and you’ve read the whole book. That’s what every writer hopes will happen with his or her book.”
The first line can be funny, dramatic, scary, or anything else, as long as it’s interesting.
“I’d suggest not starting with the weather unless you have a particularly intriguing way of describing it,” he advises. “Also don’t have your character look into the mirror and describe what he or she looks like. That’s clumsy exposition. Other than that, anything goes.”
Jurgen will create a short list but the top three winners will be chosen by agent Julian Friedmann, of London’s Blake Friedmann Literary Agency, and an editor to be confirmed.
The deadline for entries is midnight Sunday, December 4, 2011 and the winners will be announced on December. 15.
Full further details and the entry form go to http://www.NaNoWriMoContest.com.

Thanks! I love that picture. We’ve been slacking off over here. When we first started, most of us were not published and now that we are, we’re kind of lost interest in this blog. I will check out yours. 🙂

Hey! I love what you’ve done here. Writer to writer support is crucial in succeeding. I recent created my own blog where I display my work and allow people to post their work for public feedback. This blog is inspiring. Thanks!
